Everything About Joshua Kimmich's Contract

Bayern have withdrawn thier contract offer to Joshua Kimmich because the player’s decision took long. Both parties can now re-orient themselves. Nevertheless, a contract extension is not yet ruled out.

Bayern offered Kimmich a contract slightly better than his current one, where he currently earns around €20 million per year. During Monday’s supervisory board meeting, a decision was made to withdraw the club’s offer after the player’s prolonged hesitation. The door to an extension has not been completely closed. Both sides are still in talks, even after the offer was withdrawn—but it is doubtful whether the club will offer him the same terms again.

Kimmich was informed at the beginning of the week that the offer he had received from the club was no longer valid. The reason: Bayern officials cannot understand why he is still hesitating. They want a fundamental decision—whether he wants to stay or go—and not to discuss the details of a contract.

Bayern first wanted a decision from Kimmich after the winter break, but when he was not yet ready to commit, they gave him more time. Regarding the salary, the club initially wanted to extend Kimmich’s contract at reduced wages, which proved unrealistic; Bayern then offered him his current salary and even a slight pay rise. Max Eberl also promised him the captaincy after Manuel Neuer. Kimmich, however, remained undecided, which led the club to withdraw the offer.

Bayern have begun exploring the market for a potential Kimmich replacement. If the player were to go to the office tomorrow and decide he wants to stay, the offer would still be on the table. But if he takes another 3 to 4 weeks, a potential agreement would be jeopardized.
It is said that Joshua Kimmich currently has no concrete offers on the table from other top clubs.

The decision to withdraw the offer to Joshua Kimmich was made by the supervisory board. Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, in particular, wanted immediate clarity. Hoeneß wanted the club to set a deadline for Kimmich, a measure that was ruled out by Max Eberl. But now Eberl’s negotiations with Kimmich have been overruled from above, which was not the first time this had happened. The supervisory board had also vetoed the move for Jonathan Tah last summer after Eberl was ready to proceed with the deal.

At Säbener Straße, there’s a big surprise as to why Kimmich is taking so long to make his decision after the “red carpet” has been rolled out for him by the club over the past five months. Bayern bosses have no intention of waiting until April or May, as it would become increasingly complicated to find a suitable replacement.

Max Eberl, when asked whether the club can afford to let Kimmich go on a free, said: “Generally speaking, nobody is above the club. If a player decides differently, then he decides differently. Things will continue at FC Bayern. There have been great players here at FC Bayern, but who eventually had to leave the club because they couldn’t reach an agreement and their contracts ran out. Then life went on. We are not at that point [with Kimmich]. That was speaking very generally.”

Eberl on Kimmich: “There’s a lot of speculation. I’ve never given updates on negotiations and won’t be doing so now, because that’s inappropriate. We treat each other with great respect—we’re talking. What’s important is how Josh and we, as a club, treat each other. The talks are very respectful.”

Joshua Kimmich is demanding a signing fee of €20-25 million for his contract extension, arguing that he would receive a similar amount if he signed with another club on a free transfer. He views this as a necessary show of appreciation from Bayern Munich.
